Most Southern California residents know that conserving water matters, but many of us could use clearer guidance on what that actually looks like in a garden.

Pasadena Water and Power is offering a hands-on workshop to help, held at Robinson Park Recreation Center, 1081 N. Fair Oaks Avenue, on Thursday, May 7, from 6:30 – 8:00 pm.
The session will walk participants through designing a landscape that captures rainwater, reduces water use, and thrives in our local climate.
Attendees will learn how to:
- Understand and contour a landscape to capture and retain rainwater
- Calculate and place a rain garden for maximum benefit
- Create hydrozones to improve irrigation efficiency
- Select climate-appropriate plants and group them for visual impact and function
- Integrate permeable hardscape elements that support drainage and aesthetics
- Apply key design principles, including “right plant, right place,” plant forms, accents, and color

Pasadena Water & Power’s Water Awareness Month
Throughout May, Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) joins utilities nationwide in celebrating Water Awareness Month, an annual campaign highlighting the importance of one of our most precious natural resources. PWP is hosting educational events, tours, and contests focused on water sustainability and community resilience. All events are free and open to the public, though some require registration.
