Officers were patrolling near Valley Boulevard and Olive Avenue at approximately 1:30 am when they initiated a stop on a vehicle under suspicious circumstances. As officers approached, the occupants appeared visibly nervous and claimed their car had suddenly broken down. They told police they had traveled from Tarzana to Alhambra to visit a friend, an explanation officers found unusual given the time and distance.
During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered several concerning items, including a large screwdriver, black tape, and a ski mask. The discovery prompted further investigation into the occupants’ identities.
Authorities identified the suspects as Julian Carvajal of Lynwood and Jair Vargas of Los Angeles. A records check revealed that both individuals had active felony warrants related to grand theft and identity theft.
The suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Alhambra Police Department jail.
Police have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
