The dog days of summer can leave parents scrambling for new activities for both their kids and themselves. Fortunately, the Monrovia Public Library has an especially appealing lineup for the whole family during the closing weekend of July.

The youngest visitors, ages 0–11, have two great options. On Friday, July 24, the library offers two hours of LEGO Free Play from 2:30 to 4:30 pm (no registration required). Young imaginations can roam free with new-to-them brick sets and friends to build alongside.
Saturday morning, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, is reserved for neurodivergent children ages 0–11 who benefit from a sensory-friendly environment. Children with sensory processing challenges, autism spectrum disorder and/or ADHD are invited to enjoy the library in a less stimulating setting. Along with book checkouts, sensory toys will be available in the Story Room for exploratory play, as well as art supplies to encourage independent creativity. Attendance is limited, and online registration is encouraged.
Friday evening, July 24, is perfect for teens and parents to share a ride while enjoying separate activities. From 5:30 to 7:00 pm, students in grades 7–12 can pre-register for a game of laser tag in the Story Room. A signed waiver from a parent or guardian is required. At the same time, adults can head to the Community Room for Game Night. Bring your favorite board game or enjoy one from the library’s collection as you relax, socialize and perhaps win a game or two. Nintendo Switch games and puzzles will also be available. No registration is required.
Music-loving adults can return on Saturday, July 25, for “Amped Up: Music Trivia and Karaoke.” From 2:00 to 3:30 pm, participants can test their knowledge in a music trivia competition before taking the microphone to sing a favorite karaoke tune. This is a drop-in event with no registration required.
Finally, don’t overlook Monday afternoon’s Glow-in-the-Dark Bowling for children ages 6–11. Although it’s just beyond the weekend, the event captures plenty of summer fun as the library’s final Monday Funday of the season. The games run from 3:00 to 4:30 pm in the Community Room, and online registration is required.
Whether you’re bringing a toddler, a teen or simply yourself, the Monrovia Public Library offers plenty of free fun to chase away the late-summer doldrums. Full details on these and other programs are available on the library’s Events page.
