The LA Galaxy vs LAFC Fourth of July home match at the Rose Bowl Stadium not only was sold out, but broke last year’s all-time MLS attendance record with 82,110 in attendance.

      By News Desk

Originally scheduled for Feb. 25, the LA Galaxy’s match against LAFC (Los Angeles Football Club) was rescheduled due to safety considerations resulting from inclement weather and forecasted thunderstorms in the Los Angeles area.

On July 4, Fan Fest was open to supporters of both clubs from 2:30 – 6:30 pm, with live music and food and beverage available for purchase. The Soccer Champions Tour brought out legends from the participating clubs to sign autographs from 4:00 – 6:00 pm.

Galaxy fans received “Our LA. Our Galaxy” rally towels at their seats in the Rose Bowl Stadium. Kickoff was at 7:30 p.m. The national anthem was performed by Heidi-Marie Ferren, the last, and longest-reigning Miss USO.  She has performed and spoken across the globe as an ambassador in over 1,000 venues globally. The Hero of the Match was Vietnam veteran United States Army Chief Warrant Officer II Thomas Jones. Some of his awards include the Purple Heart, the Army Aviation Badge – Helicopter Pilot, Air Medal with “V” device and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with a Silver Star.

LAFC faced its top rival in the heavily anticipated Fourth of July matchup at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena at 7:30 pm. LA Galaxy defeated LAFC 2-1 in the first-ever meeting between the two teams at the Stadium.

Following the match, a fireworks show was presented for all fans in attendance.

Not the “First ever meeting”… perhaps the first at the Rose Bowl. The match was the 20th edition across all competitions of El Tráfico with the Galaxy leading the all-time series 8-6-5.
