On New Year’s Day, L.A. County Health Department reported 20,414 new COVID-19 cases and 207 additional deaths. Forty reported deaths were from a backlog associated with the Spectrum outage and holiday reporting delays.

L.A. County hospitals’ load grew to 7,613 COVID-19 patients, with 21% in intensive care units. Gov. Newsom’s office announced the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin evaluating and upgrading outdated oxygen delivery systems at six Los Angeles County hospitals. Many COVID-19 patients can require ten times as much oxygen as a normal patient.
“Take Off Your Mask”
As conditions worsens at County hospitals, many Donald Trump supporters gathered at the Pasadena Rose Bowl parking lots. Many were maskless, for what was called the “Patriots’ Rose Parade.” The reason for it was to “uncancel” the Rose Parade, according to a social media post.
Cars and trucks with flags bearing Mr. Trump’s name caravaned along Colorado Boulevard on Friday afternoon, with many yelling at pedestrians to take off their masks. Some residents showed their displeasure by holding counter signs and giving the caravan the thumbs down. Pasadena Police kept an eye on the maskless gatherers but did not interfere. In contrast, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department mobilized a “Super-Spreader” Task Force on New Year’s Eve to crack down on illegal and large gatherings.
Holidays surge
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Dec. 31, California became the third state to exceed 25,000 COVID-19 deaths since the start of the pandemic. Epidemiologists and health officials are attributing the rise to the “Thanksgiving Surge,” while many are fearing a bigger surge after the holidays.

Do you know why Pasadena not only allowed these knuckleheads to co-op our Rose Parade, but turned a blind eye to a super spreader event? LA County won’t allow for such events yet Pasadena does. And this despite the fact that there’s standing room only at the Huntington.
Oh yeah…I was wearing a mask and simply walked to get my food order and one of these LOVELY people shouted in my face and threatened me. I guess screaming threats at someone is just how they communicate…..
What an embarrassment. These Trumpsters should have taken their garbage out to Orange County where they belong!
You know most will proclaim to be “Pro Life.” They’ll tell you without a mask as they stand right in front of you.
