According to the latest L.A. County Health Department data, cases have continued to increase rapidly across all groups, but with a significantly better outcome for vaccinated individuals.
By News Desk
For the week ending December 25th, case rates were much higher for those unvaccinated. There were 991 new cases per 100,000 unvaccinated; 588 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated without boosters; and 254 cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated with boosters.
People who were unvaccinated were nine times more likely to be hospitalized than those fully vaccinated without boosters. More markedly, those fully vaccinated and boosted were 38 times less likely to be hospitalized than those unvaccinated.
Vaccinated vs. non-vaccinated
The vaccine also continues to provide strong protection against hospitalization and death, according to data from the County’s Health Department. One way to evaluate the protection offered by vaccines is rate ratios. These ratios compare rates of an outcome in unvaccinated people with rates of the same outcome in fully vaccinated people. The higher the rate ratio, the more protective the vaccine is against the outcome.
In conclusion, at the end of December 2021, people who were not vaccinated were 22 times more likely to die of COVID than those who were vaccinated. Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is still the best way to prevent serious illness and death.

But we need to remember it’s not Only about deaths. Our healthcare workers are so overwhelmed right now. Also long haul sucks.
