Families looking to make the most of summer evenings are invited to enjoy live music, dance, and hands-on art activities during the Sunset Music Series at Kidspace Children’s Museum.

      By Melanie Hooks

The series begins Friday, June 26, and continues on select Fridays throughout the summer. Each event features interactive multicultural performances, themed art activities, and extended museum hours, allowing visitors to explore the museum during the cooler evening hours.

Performances will take place in the Stone Hollow Amphitheater at 5:30 pm and 7:00 pm, while the museum remains open until 8:00 pm. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic or purchase food from the museum café and visiting food trucks.

The 2026 Sunset Music Series opens June 26 with West African Rhythms, featuring Le Ballet Dembaya. The youth-led ensemble will present traditional West African drumming, dance, song, and cultural storytelling through energetic performances celebrating community and heritage.

On July 10, Joy of Indonesia will showcase the Sounds of Joy Kolintang and Angklung Ensemble. The performance highlights traditional bamboo angklung instruments and melodic kolintang percussion in a celebration of Indonesian music and culture.

The series continues July 24 with Afro-Latin Summer Jam, featuring Masanga Marimba performing traditional and popular music from Africa and Latin America. The ensemble combines Zimbabwean marimbas with drums, percussion, trumpet, trombone, and vocals.

On Aug. 7, audiences can experience Journey through the Philippines with Kayamanan Ng Lahi. Through music, song, and dance, the group will present an interactive exploration of Filipino cultural traditions and heritage.

The final event of the season, Folklórica de México, takes place Aug. 21. Ballet Folklorico de Esperanza will perform traditional Mexican folk dances, highlighting the diverse cultures and regions of Mexico through colorful costumes and lively choreography.

The Sunset Music Series is included with museum admission and is free for members. Reservations are recommended. Tickets and additional information are available through the museum.
