The Alhambra Unified School District welcomed Keiko Rakin as its second-ever Student Board Member. Rakin took her official Oath of Office at the beginning of the August 27th Board of Education Meeting.

Alhambra Mayor Sasha Renée Pérez administered the Oath. As a School Board member, Keiko will also serve as chairperson of the 12 students elected to the District’s Student Advisory Council (SAC).
Keiko Rakin is a highly-involved student and holds many leadership roles.
Keiko is currently president of the Creative Writers Crew, president of the library service club, vice president of Film Study and Production, SBM and SAC chairperson, speech and debate member, cross country captain, varsity track and field athlete, and USC Shoah Foundation Jr. Intern.
Keiko is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and open environment for students to express their thoughts and concerns. She hopes to expand mental health resources to the elementary and middle schools, grow the TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education) programs at the high schools, and create more outreach to homeless and foster care youth. Keiko will represent almost 15,000 AUSD students and work closely with the Student Advisory Council to make sure student voices are included in the decision-making process.
AUSD Superintendent, Dr. Denise R. Jaramillo, said:
I am beyond thrilled to welcome Keiko as our 2024-25 Student Board Member. She has already demonstrated leadership at her school and as part of last year’s Student Advisory Council, and I know her voice and contributions will be invaluable this year. I look forward to seeing her shine as she works with her peers and the Board of Education to make a positive impact to the Alhambra Unified School District.”
At the same meeting, Madison Kang, Mark Keppel High School senior, was sworn in as the SBM Alternate. Madison is also a returning member of SAC, and will serve as its vice-chairperson.
