The Pasadena Baha’i community invites all to a celebration of Juneteenth with guest speakers Dr. Brian McDonald and Sidney Morrison, and a special musical presentation by Shanell Sanders.

      By News Desk

      Dr. Brian McDonald, Ed.D.

Dr. Brian McDonald, Ed.D., served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) for 9 years, the longest tenure in modern times of any superintendent for the district. Earlier, he served as Pasadena’s Chief Academic Officer for three years. He earned his Doctor of Education degree from Sam Houston State University and was a teacher and administrator in the Houston Independent School District for many years before coming to Pasadena in 2011 to serve in these roles for PUSD. He was born and raised in Jamaica.

      Sidney Morrison

Sidney Morrison lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Karan. He is a retired teacher and school principal who is now a part-time educational consultant and leadership coach. He is the author of the historical novel, Frederick Douglass, and is now working on his next historical novel on the life of James Hemings, brother of Sally Hemings and Thomas Jefferson’s slave. He will be appearing at Vroman’s the day before the Baha’i celebration (on Tuesday, June 18, 2024) to discuss his historical novel, Frederick Douglass: A Novel.
