Ever wonder which famous Hollywood icons began their careers at Pasadena Playhouse, or how far back its influence really goes? You’ll get your chance to find out on Saturday, September 26, at 10:00 am via Zoom, thanks to the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation.
By Melanie Hooks
The foundation’s Coffee & Conversation series turns its spotlight on Pasadena’s famous theater, uncovering its colorful history, from its wartime origins in 1917 to the present day.
The session will explore the theater’s iconic 1925 Spanish Colonial Revival building and courtyard lobby, as well as the story of its twin, located 500 miles away in the Sonoran Desert. And it wouldn’t be a coffee klatch without discussing the famous College of Theater Arts and its alumni, including Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, and William Holden.
Beyond the glamour, the Playhouse’s high-stakes survival story will also be explored, including crippling debts, temporary closures, and astonishing comebacks.
As a historic preservation organization, LAHTF will also spotlight the Playhouse’s preservation history and its crowning triumph: winning the 2023 Regional Theatre Tony Award.
Grab your coffee and join the conversation on Zoom for a morning of theatre history.
The event is free to attend, but pre-registration is required.
