Glenn has a Black Belt in Jiu Jitsu (with a focus on Brazillian Jiu Jitsu), an achievement that requires at least 10 years of Jiu Jitsu practice. As a veteran, Glenn finds Ju Jitsu to be a stimulating and strengthening practice for the mind, body and soul. He volunteers his services through the Veteran’s Outreach Program at noon Sundays at the G3 Academy of Martial Arts, 303 W. Sierra Madre Blvd, Sierra Madre, CA. 91024
Jiu Jitsu is a combination of Japanese martial arts. The word “Jiu” is translated as gentle, supple or pliable, and the word “Jitsu” is translated as art or technique. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is known as Arte Suave, the gentle art. Jiu Jitsu is the art of defeating an opponent without weapons, including grappling and gripping. Gripping, or seizing the opponent, often by grabbing part of the opponent’s clothing, allows one fighter to gain a physical advantage over the other. Grappling includes takedowns and ground control. Skeletal alignment and balance allow one adversary to overpower the other with only a few moves. Loss of ability to defend oneself is caused by the skill of grabbing the sleeve or the collar of the opponent and pulling him or her out of alignment.. Each arm and leg can be used as a weapon. The ulna and radius, bones located in the forearms, are known as ”blades.”
Glenn travels across the country and throughout the world with his Jiu Jitsu Veteran’s Outreach classes. He loves to share his mastery with veterans who live in rural areas. Glenn is in the process of developing a Jiu Jitsu self-defense program for women. This will soon be available, along with the continuing weekly Veteran’s Outreach program he teaches at the G3 Academy.
