Teacher and advocate Jennifer Love Tang has announced her candidacy for the Alhambra Unified School District Board of Education, citing 15 years of experience in education and advocacy as the foundation for her campaign. She is running for District 4.

Tang said she entered the teaching profession believing education can play a key role in expanding opportunities for students and strengthening communities. She credited her own teachers in the Alhambra Unified School District (AUSD) with inspiring her career in education.
According to Tang, her experiences in the classroom exposed her to challenges that extend beyond academics, including food and housing insecurity, immigration-related concerns, gang violence, and mental health needs. She said those experiences led her to become involved in organizing and advocacy efforts focused on education policy and broader systems-level change.
As a candidate, Tang said public education must continue to adapt to a rapidly changing world. She argued that schools should support students’ curiosity, creativity, and confidence in addition to academic achievement.
Tang is scheduled to host her first campaign fundraiser on June 27 and is inviting community members to attend or contribute to support voter outreach efforts.
She also acknowledged the retirement of Trustee Bob Gin, who served in the seat for 24 years, thanking him for his support and reflecting on his contributions to local schools and the community.
