Due to a significant increase in COVID-19 case rates over the past three weeks, Dr. Ying-Ying Goh, Pasadena’s Public Health Department Director and Health Officer, is expected to issue a Health Officer Order requiring face masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

While Pasadena’s case rates were lower than LA County’s last week, weekend case rates continued to climb. Currently, Pasadena meets the CDC’s definition of “substantial transmission” of COVID19. The order will be finalized and posted sometime this week. The city will also require all of its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
On Monday, July 19, L.A. County’s Health Department reported a 700% increase in the number of people hospitalized for COVID-19 illness since July 15. There are 528 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized. Last Monday, there were 372 people hospitalized and a month ago, 218 people were hospitalized.
Masks for Everyone Indoors
The L.A. County’s new Health Officer Order requires masking for everyone while indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Masks are needed due to the significant increase in the Delta variant, and the risks to the almost four million people in L.A. County who have not been or are not eligible to be vaccinated.
A prediction is just another name for a guess.
