Highlights of Alhambra Mayor Pérez’s First 100 Days in Office

One of Mayor Sasha Renée Pérez’s most important accomplishments was to facilitate the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine to emergency personnel, city staff, and residents.

Within her first fifty days, all emergency personnel and staff who requested the vaccine were vaccinated. The City of Alhambra has opened three COVID-19 vaccination clinics for residents, staff, police officers and firefighters. 26% of all Alhambra residents have been vaccinated, and 58.6% of residents 65 and older vaccinated have been vaccinated.

In addition, Mayor Pérez has led the following initiatives:

• Limiting excessive third party app delivery fees to protect local businesses
• Creating Alhambra’s first composting program, which will launch this Summer
• Approving 45+ units of affordable housing for low-income families
• Creating a ‘opt-in’ ordinance for plastic utensils that will help fight environmental waste and reduce costs for mom and pop restaurants (vote pending).
• Establishing ‘Hero Pay,’ an initiative to provide hazard pay for retail workers in grocery and pharmacy stores for 120 days (vote pending).
• Prohibiting the sale of flavored tobacco products to youth and limited smoking in public areas  (draft ordinance pending)
• Working with Housing Rights Center to create ‘hotline hours’ for Alhambra residents in need of housing related assistance
• Updating city employment applications to include gender non-binary
• Completing the Stormwater Master Plan, making Alhambra the first city in the Upper Los Angeles River Watershed Area to complete a plan

In response to nationwide racially charged assaults on Asian Americans, Mayor Perez issued a proclamation condemning hate crimes against the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Accompanying this proclamation was a letter of support for Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis’ motion to identify more than $800,000 in funding to expand Los Angeles County’s Anti-Hate program, which was passed unanimously. The Mayor continues to support communities of color by helping facilitate community building events.
