      > A Message from ColoradoBoulevard.net:

      Dear Readers,

Effective immediately, we will be tapering down our coverage of closures and concentrate more on uplifting local stories and ways to enrich our well-being, while navigating these difficult times with dignity and civility. We will also up our coverage of the latest science and technology breakthroughs in the fight to conquer COVID-19, while adding nutrition and practical information.

Older adults living in the community may face some challenges during an emergency (mobility problems, chronic health conditions), or they may not have any family or friends nearby to support them.

In addition, social distancing for coronavirus may cause a loneliness epidemic. If you are in good health and able to help, here are few rules of thumb to follow:

      • Offer a grocery ride to the local store. Be clear it’s not to buy or spend your own money, but rather as a fast transportation mode to and from the local store.
      • Make a welfare check on an elderly neighbor you know. Call or stop by and talk to them from a distance.
      • Buy a prepackaged food item if you’re able and bring it to the person in need (wiping it down with sanitizer before leaving.) Do not cook for them as you may contaminate the food with your own germs.
      • Finally, take care of yourself first. You need to be in good health in order to take care of your family and others.

The Red Cross has prepared a Disaster Preparedness guide for seniors by seniors. Many of the tips can be applied to help our senior population get prepared. (Check guide here).
