“Clean up after yourself.” One of childhood’s major tenets, this familiar phrase inspires many an environmental event. California Coastal Cleanup Day broadens that sentiment to include cleaning up on behalf of others—and it’s coming to Pasadena on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9:00 am to noon at the Arroyo Seco, 360 N. Arroyo Blvd.

Volunteers will help remove trash from Pasadena’s waterways and prevent pollution from making its way downstream to the ocean.
The City of Pasadena’s Public Works Department and the West Pasadena Residents’ Association encourage residents to participate. The cleanup supports Pasadena’s broader stormwater program, which works year-round to prevent pollution from entering the storm-drain system and to protect local waterways.
Public participation is a key part of the city’s responsibilities under its Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit. It also complements ongoing stormwater capture, treatment and water-quality monitoring efforts.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is the state’s largest annual volunteer event, bringing communities together to clean beaches, creeks, rivers, lakes and other waterways. Volunteers also record the types of trash they collect, providing valuable data to help inform efforts to reduce pollution and protect California’s waterways.
