Virginia getting ready for the little goblins. Halloween – 2014

Looking for a scare? Visit one or all of these places…if you dare.

      By Katlyn Ong

Loma Alta Street – Gravity Hill

      1054 E Loma Alta Dr.
      Altadena, CA 91001

Place your car in neutral as you face downhill to travel up the hill backwards. Some report fingerprints being found on their car afterward, belonging to the ghost of a teen who took her parents’ car and lost control of it on this hill, killing herself and her three friends.

      San Gabriel Mission Playhouse

      320 S Mission Dr.
      San Gabriel, CA 91776

The San Gabriel Mission Playhouse has tunnels underground that are believed to be haunted. The tunnels were built so that the owner, Uncle John, could quickly run between backstage and the foyer. During the Depression, the tunnels were used to house dead bodies and were sealed once full. Apparitions have been seen on monitors during performances. One was recognized as Uncle John. Other spirits thought to reside here belong to a little girl and a former stage manager.

      Colorado Street Bridge

      504 W Colorado Blvd.
      Pasadena, CA 91105

The Colorado Street Bridge, constructed over the Arroyo Seco River in 1912, is nicknamed “Suicide Bridge” for the 100 people said to have committed suicide by jumping from it. Reports say that almost 50 of the jumpers died during the Great Depression, and at least one legend blames the bridge’s troubled past on a worker who was left to die after falling and landing in wet cement below the bridge. The apparitions seen here range from a man in wire rimmed glasses to a woman in a flowing robe who leaps from the top of a parapet.

      Rialto Theatre

      1023 Fair Oaks Ave.
      South Pasadena, CA 91030

Legend says that a girl committed suicide by slitting her wrists in the bathroom then going up to the balcony to bleed to death. Another legend tells of a man who went mad in the projector booth. Bathroom stall doors have been reported to shake, and apparitions of an older man have been seen in the seats or walking up and down the balcony stairs.

      Phoenix Inn Chinese Cuisine

      208 E Valley Blvd.
      Alhambra, CA 91801

This Chinese restaurant is said to house a very observant ghost. She walks in and out of the kitchen and around the tables, observes as diners place their orders, and sits and watches them eat.
