Pasadena’s Shumei Arts Council will host its 27th Invitational Concert this year, a free event featuring a performance by the acclaimed California String Quartet.

The quartet’s musicians, Luanne Homzy (1st violin), Misha Vayman (2nd violin), Jonah Sirota (viola), and Evgeny Tonkha (cello), will present a dynamic and globally inspired program.
A Rich, International Program
The evening’s repertoire includes:
- Antonín Dvořák’s “American” String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, Op. 96, a beloved work composed during the Czech composer’s time in the United States.
- Philip Glass’s String Quartet No. 5, showcasing the American minimalist composer’s signature rhythmic clarity and meditative style.
- Music by Ryuichi Sakamoto, the influential Japanese composer known for his evocative film scores and genre‑spanning compositions.
- Newly arranged selections by Jerry Bock, including music from Fiddler on the Roof.
- Additional new works and Gypsy‑Roma–inspired pieces composed and arranged by violinist Luanne Homzy, reflecting her American and French‑Canadian musical heritage.
This year’s program promises a vibrant blend of classical tradition, contemporary innovation, and cross‑cultural musical storytelling, an evening poised to captivate longtime chamber‑music fans and new listeners alike.
