Water is always a hot topic in Southern California these days. For many, it’s also a source of sacred connection to the planet—a relationship illuminated in the new feature documentary Our Water Ways: California Tribal Stories with Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples, which will be screened for free on Tuesday, August 25, at 6:30 pm at Patagonia’s Old Town Pasadena location.

The film illuminates the sacred relationships between Native communities and California’s waterways. More than just a screening host, Patagonia helped fund the film in partnership with the Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous Peoples (SPI), the Weingart Foundation, and the Climate Science Alliance.
According to the organizers, “the film centers Indigenous voices, knowledge, and resilience amidst ongoing environmental injustice and the legacy of settler colonialism.” They describe the film as essential viewing for “educational institutions, environmental organizations, policymakers, and the general public” seeking to deepen their understanding of Indigenous stewardship and the critical role Native Nations play in protecting the health of our rivers, coastlines, and watersheds.
