Music lovers will have two opportunities to experience live performances at Ramo Auditorium this weekend as the Glee Club, Chamber Singers, and Caltech Orchestra present a series of concerts featuring choral masterpieces and iconic film scores.

First up are the Glee Club and Chamber Singers, performing on Friday, May 15, at 8:00 pm and Saturday, May 16, at 3:00 pm. The Glee Club’s spring concert highlights works by American composers including Aaron Copland, Randall Thompson, Williametta Spencer, Healey Willan, and Frank Ticheli. The program also includes spirituals arranged by Undine Moore and William Dawson, as well as Lux Aeterna by Morten Lauridsen, performed with orchestra.

The Chamber Singers will present a varied selection that includes three Italian Renaissance madrigals, three modern Lauridsen Madrigali, and Lobet den Herrn by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Following the choral performances, the Caltech Orchestra will take audiences on a cinematic journey with “Four Great Film Composers,” featuring music from some of Hollywood’s most memorable films. Concerts are scheduled for Saturday, May 16, at 8:00 pm and Sunday, May 17, at 3:00 pm.

The orchestra’s program includes selections from North by Northwest and Psycho by Bernard Herrmann, as well as music from Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly by Ennio Morricone.

Additional highlights include themes from To Kill a Mockingbird and The Magnificent Seven by Elmer Bernstein, along with Voyage, written for NASA’s 60th anniversary, and music from Star Trek Into Darkness by Michael Giacchino.

All performances will take place at Ramo Auditorium, located inside Donald E. Baxter M.D. Hall of the Humanities and Social Sciences at 1200 E. California Blvd. in Pasadena. Admission is free, and open weekend parking will be available on campus.
