      Forest Lawn–Glendale celebrates Black History Month with a free, family-friendly event on February 17. A community resource fair and reception with light refreshments will be followed by music, dance, poetry, and special-guest speeches celebrating African American icons, culture, and history.

      On Saturday, February 17, 2024, the Forest Lawn-Glendale Black History Month event will begin with a community resource and networking fair including local education, health, housing, and volunteer resources, along with complimentary refreshments and beverages. At 6:00 pm Forest Lawn, in partnership with producer Charles Lane, will present a performance from the sold-out opera “Omar,” which will include choreographer Yusuf Nasir (dancer and choreographer of “Omar”), musical director Rickey Pagoet, a troupe of singers and dancers, soloist Una Van Duvall, baritone Cedric Berry, Caleb Curry, and Ebony Fay, and a five-piece band. Poet Peter J. Harris, will introduce a new generation of emerging young poets, narrator Michael Ellington, special-guest speaker Sidney Hurd, and keynote speaker Dr. Stephany Powell.

      Forest Lawn’s Black History Month event takes place on Saturday, February 17, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:30 pm, inside the Hall of Crucifixion-Resurrection at Forest Lawn–Glendale, 1712 S. Glendale Avenue, Glendale. Doors open at 4:00 pm for the resource fair and pre-show reception with refreshments, music, and prizes. Seating for the performance at 6:00 pm will be available on a first come, first served basis. Admission and parking are free.
