Knox Presbyterian Church will once again host visiting artists presented by the Pasadena Folk Music Society in a bluegrass-focused concert on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 7:30 pm.

      By Melanie Hooks

The concert will feature frequent collaborators Laurie Lewis and Nina Gerber, whose Pasadena appearance continues a long-running series of duo performances.

Lewis is known as a singer, songwriter, teacher, producer and performer who works internationally. Gerber, a guitarist and composer, has spent decades accompanying acclaimed musicians and writing original instrumental works since her beginnings in rural California.

“I don’t write lyrics, and I don’t sing,” Gerber says on her website. “That’s not my thing. I’m working on being a really good guitarist. I wanted to be good at one thing instead of mediocre at a bunch of things.”

Although the evening is billed as bluegrass-focused, both artists are known for their versatility across multiple musical genres, and organizers expect the performance to include unexpected musical turns.

For nearly four decades, Lewis has earned a devoted following and numerous honors for her expressive voice and wide-ranging songwriting. In addition to her performing career, she is a respected recording producer, teacher and mentor. Her work has crossed genre, geographic and gender boundaries throughout her career.

While deeply rooted in bluegrass traditions, Lewis’ songwriting reflects influences that extend beyond the genre, drawing from old-time music, country, Tin Pan Alley, jazz standards and early rock ’n’ roll.

Gerber has been a fixture of the West Coast acoustic music scene since the late 1970s. Widely praised by the songwriters and performers with whom she has collaborated, she is recognized for musical choices that are both inventive and complementary to the songs she accompanies.

The event is organized by volunteers of the Pasadena Folk Music Society, which has presented live music at affordable prices for four decades.

Additional information is available through the Pasadena Folk Music Society.
