A spark of renewal is rising in Altadena as Altadena Cookie Co. prepared to open its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, October 28. The event marked a major milestone for the community, the first new business to open since the devastating Eaton Fire that swept through the area ten months ago.

The woman-owned bakery, founded by Jessica Christopher and Michelle Taylor, began in 2020 as a cottage-licensed home bakery. The pair broke ground on their first brick-and-mortar location 18 months before the fire, only to face immense setbacks as both owners endured personal loss during the disaster. Now, after years of dedication and rebuilding, they’re ready to welcome the community back with warmth, cookies, and a renewed sense of hope.
“This opening isn’t just about cookies, it’s about community,” said co-owner Michelle Taylor. “We wanted to create a space that brings people together again, especially after everything this neighborhood has gone through.”
Tuesday’s ribbon cutting, at 3027 Lincoln Ave., included participation from local students, a short ceremony at 11:15 am, and remarks from the owners. Guests were invited to tour the kitchen and dining area and enjoy light refreshments.
Altadena Cookie Co. officially opened to the public on Wednesday, October 29, keeping regular hours of 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. Wednesday through Friday and 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on weekends. The menu will feature a rotating selection of gourmet cookies, soft serve ice cream, and beverages.
Looking ahead, the bakery also plans to host baking and decorating classes, private parties, and introduce a “baking lending library”, all designed to make the new shop a hub of creativity and connection in a neighborhood still healing from loss.
For residents, the opening represents more than a new place to satisfy a sweet tooth, it’s a sign that Altadena’s resilience, like a perfectly baked cookie, is stronger than ever.
