Fast Food Workers, Service Employees International Union members, and several supporters celebrated new Assembly Bill 1228 in the State Capitol Park in Sacramento.

On Monday, April 1, Assemblymember Chris Holden’s bill went into effect, raising the minimum wage for fast food workers across California to $20 an hour and creating livable wages for more than 500,000 fast food workers.
“Every historic move toward equity has been met with backlash. The criticisms were loud but the cries of the people in need were louder. I am proud to see us reach this day and confident that Californians will look back on this moment and realize that all working parties, supporters and opposition, came together to make livable wages possible for the fast food workers of this state. They deserve to celebrate and they deserve a life where they work full-time and are not left struggling,” Said Holden.
A rally at the State Capitol Park World Peace Rose Garden on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 celebrated the increase in the minimum wage.
