Music lovers looking for a midsummer cultural experience can enjoy an evening of traditional Scottish music when acclaimed folksinger Iona Fyfe performs at Knox Presbyterian Church on July 11.

Hosted by the Pasadena Folk Music Society, the concert will begin at 7:30 pm at the church, located at 225 S. Hill Ave. in Pasadena.
Fyfe, who hails from Aberdeenshire in northeast Scotland, has earned recognition as one of Scotland’s leading traditional singers. Deeply rooted in the singing traditions of her home region, she became the first singer to receive the title of Musician of the Year at the 2021 MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards. She is also a two-time recipient of the Scots Singer of the Year award and has performed throughout Europe, the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Raised within Scotland’s Traditional Music and Song Association movement, Fyfe was influenced by revivalist singers including Jimmie Hutchison, Joe Aitken, and Carole Prior. She developed her ballad and bothy ballad style through participation in singarounds, ceilidhs, and competitions beginning at age 5. Much of her repertoire was learned through oral tradition, and she remains active in the competitive ballad circuit.
Advance tickets are available through Eventbrite for $33.85 for adults and $12.51 for Caltech students and younger students through high school, including fees. Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the concert, with cash or check accepted.
The event is organized by volunteers of the Pasadena Folk Music Society, which has presented live music at affordable prices for four decades.
