Active Streets:  San Gabriel – South Pasadena – Alhambra.

      By News Desk

On Sunday April 28, 2024, Active Streets: Mission-to-Mission will create 5 miles of car-free streets for the public to walk, bike, run, skate, scoot, dance, explore, and play.

The free, family-friendly event will connect the historic San Gabriel and South Pasadena Mission Districts with downtown Alhambra. Participants can attend the event via the Metro Rail (A Line, Mission Station), which connects directly to the event route and South Pasadena Activity Hub. Children four or under ride free on Metro buses and trains, and bikes and scooters may be brought on board at no extra cost.

Alhambra Mayor Ross J. Maza said:

We are thrilled to once again welcome residents and visitors across the San Gabriel Valley by temporarily opening our streets to pedestrians, cyclists, and families. This event provides a unique opportunity for residents to connect, explore, and enjoy the beauty of our City. I encourage everyone to join us on April 28 for a day of fun, fitness and camaraderie!”

Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist, a leisurely walker or a family looking for a day of outdoor adventure, Mission to Mission: Active Streets has something for everyone. All forms of active transportation including walking, biking, skating, jogging and skateboarding are permitted. Attendees are welcome to join the event anywhere along the designated route and there is no start or finish point.

The festivities will kick off at 8:20 am with an official Opening Ceremony at South Pasadena City Hall (1414 Mission Street). The 626 Run, a family-friendly 5K Fun Run, will follow at 8:30 am. Each downtown district will feature an Activity Hub with live music and artists, community organizations, green vendors, and family-friendly games. GoSGV E-bike test ride zones will be available in the South Pasadena and San Gabriel hubs.

      Hubs

Activity hubs with free water refill stations and vendors will be located at:

      • South Pasadena Hub:
Mission Street between Meridian Avenue and Fremont Avenue
      • Alhambra Hub:
Main Street between 3rd Street and Garfield Avenue
      • San Gabriel Hub:
Mission Drive between Broadway and Mission Road

      Free

Registration is not required. Attendees can start and stop at any point along the route, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Participants are encouraged to enjoy the day by foot, bike, skate, skateboard, scooter, or any human-powered vehicle. For a route map and more info, visit activestreets.org.
