Melodia Mariposa, the non-profit arts group founded by Altadena resident (and world class violinist) Irina Voloshina, is delighted to present Luanne Homzy’s Arcana Nomadica, an eclectic set of chamber pieces from around the world, featuring everything from Romani music to jazz to classical, all for free this Saturday, April 4, at 7:00 pm.

Note: Tickets (required) are going fast for this one — because they’re free! Grab them here or join the waitlist.

Performing will be: Luanne Homzy – Violin, Nikolai Sivchuk – Banyan Accordéon, Luca Pino – Guitar, and Felix Kochendörfer – Double Bass.

Music from France, Germany, Argentina, Hungary, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Serbia, the USA, the Ukraine, and Russia, will be featured. Whether classical, folk, Gypsy/Romani, movie music, jazz, or a mix, the program promises to enchant the listener.

      The program will include:

Movements from Sonata no 4 in C Minor BWV 1017 – Bach
Moskovskaya Polka, Russian and Ukrainian Songs – Russian Traditional
Praeludium and Allegro – Fritz Kreisler
Minor Swing – Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli
      Escualo – Astor Piazzolla
      Traditional Songs – Hungarian Traditional
      Transylvanian Lullaby – John Morris
      Whistle Hora – Grigoras Dinicu
Exotica Mix – Leigh Harline, Ted Snyder, Duke Ellington, and Trad. Serbian/Hungarian
Paganini With Swing – Niccoli Paganini arr. Luanne Homzy
      Zigeunerweisen – Pablo de Sarasate

More pieces are likely to sneak in, the organizers write. Melodia Mariposa specializes in small venues that bring ordinary people close up to the extraordinary worlds of folk, classical, movie music and more. Westerbeck Recital Hall at Pasadena City College fits that bill, located at 1570 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91106.

Phone (626) 585-7233 for more information or visit the Melodia Mariposa website.
