The intriguingly named “Tehrangeles Vice” free lecture, taking place this Sunday from 10:00 – 11:30 am at The Huntington, is the final event in a series of intimate vinyl listening sessions exploring themes of exile, sanctuary, and migration.
Inspired by the exhibition The Eight Directions of the Wind: Edmund de Waal at The Huntington, the talk is co-hosted by creative director Josh Kun and supported by In Sheep’s Clothing Hi-Fi.
The session features a hi-fi sound system and a single-key vinyl recording, accompanied by physical liner notes, that connects the exhibition to musical histories and communities across Los Angeles. It invites listeners to delve deeper into the historical contexts of each selection.
Sunday’s session features the 2025 compilation Tehrangeles Vice (Iranian Diaspora Pop 1983–1993). Released by the Discotchari label, the compilation showcases the dynamic Iranian music scene that flourished in exile after the 1979 revolution, from Westwood to Glendale to the San Fernando Valley. Recorded in local studios and often featuring prominent Los Angeles session musicians, these songs were crucial in shaping diasporic Iranian identity and community in L.A.
The session will include a conversation with Discotchari co-founders Zachary Asdourian and Anais Gyulbudaghyan, as well as a live performance by Faunoos.
The event will take place in The Rose Hills Foundation Garden Court.
Registration includes free admission to The Huntington. Limit two tickets per person.
