Residents interested in uncovering their family stories will have an opportunity to explore genealogy resources and connect with local historical and cultural organizations at the South Pasadena Public Library’s Genealogy Fair on Saturday, Oct. 3.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3:00 pm in the Library Community Room, 1115 El Centro St. It is open to community members of all experience levels, from those just beginning to research their family trees to experienced genealogists seeking new resources.

Throughout the day, exhibitors will share information about family history, cultural heritage and regional research. Attendees also can participate in presentations covering a variety of genealogy topics.

The program will begin at 10:30 am with “Genealogy 101,” presented by Sara Cockran, known as the Skeleton Whisperer. The introductory session will run until 11:30 am.

At noon, Eugene Moy, president of the Historical Society of Southern California, will discuss Chinese genealogy in Southern California. His presentation will explore resources and research methods available to people tracing Chinese family histories in the region.

The fair will conclude with a screening of My Mother’s Voice, a short documentary about 14-year-old Flora Munushian’s escape from the Armenian genocide. The 2:00 pm. screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session with the film’s author and documentarian, Dr. Kay Mouradian.
