Help support Monarch butterflies by planting milkweed.
In 2024, there was a mass die-off of Western monarch butterflies. Now more than ever, it’s critical to take action to support this iconic species. Milkweed is the only plant Monarchs lay their eggs on and the only food their caterpillars eat. Restoring their habitat with native milkweed is a critical way to help these beautiful butterflies.
On Saturday, August 23rd, Arroyos & Foothills Conservancy will hold a free milkweed giveaway at Cottonwood Canyon. At this event, you’ll learn about Monarch butterflies, their epic migrations, and native milkweed species. You’ll walk away with milkweed to plant in your garden, on your patio, or in any green space you have access to.
Milkweed will be available on a first come, first served basis. You’re welcome to stop by any time during event hours to pick up your plants. To adopt milkweed, you’ll need to register your information on-site during the event.
> Street parking is available along both sides of Linda Vista Avenue. RSVPing does not guarantee plants, but ensures you’ll receive event updates and reminders. To register, click here.
