Pasadena’s Chalk Festival will celebrate its 33rd year Sept. 26 and 27, moving to a new location for the first time. The two-day event will take place at Brookside Park, next to Kidspace Museum near the Rose Bowl.
More than 500 artists from Los Angeles and throughout Southern California are expected to gather at the park to transform more than two football fields of pavement into colorful works of art.
Thousands of art lovers, families and visitors will have the opportunity to watch artists create murals in a wide range of styles and genres. The artwork will include animation, renderings of masterpieces, fantasy, humorous and inspirational pieces, popular culture icons and three-dimensional illusionary art.
Completed over the course of the weekend, the murals will fill the pavement in brilliant color, giving the festival its nickname, “A Museum without Walls.”
The event will also feature music from DJ Cadillac G and a variety of food trucks. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the park during the festival.
A silent auction featuring affordable artwork created by festival participants will benefit the event’s producers, Light Bringer Project, a Pasadena-based nonprofit that provides innovative arts programs for public school youth.
Visitors can also participate in the festival by voting for their favorite mural on Sunday, when the artworks are completed.
The Pasadena Chalk Festival will be open from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm Saturday, Sept. 26, and from 11:00 am to 6:30 pm Sunday, Sept. 27. Admission is free.
The festival will be held at Brookside Park, 480 N. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena. Free parking will be available alongside Brookside Park in Lot I.
Public transportation to the area includes Metro bus lines 180, 260 and 261; Pasadena Transit lines 51 and 52; and Foothill Transit Commuter Express 549.
