On May 31 at 11:30 am, members of the community are invited to gather in the Church Lounge at First United Methodist Church Pasadena for an in‑depth conversation on safeguarding democratic participation.

The event, titled “Our Democracy Deserves Protection,” will feature longtime FUMC Pasadena member Marilynne Kennedy Wilander, a retired teacher and assistant principal who now serves as Elected Director in Development for the Pasadena Area League of Women Voters.

Wilander will outline the League’s ongoing work to defend voting rights and strengthen democratic systems. The League of Women Voters has been vocal about rising threats to election integrity. According to the organization’s website, “Elections are under attack, and the time to act is now. From federal overreach to attempts at voter intimidation and suppression, these threats are real and escalating.”

The upcoming discussion aims to help attendees understand these challenges and explore concrete steps individuals can take to support fair and accessible elections. Organizers describe the event as an opportunity for community members to learn, ask questions, and engage with one another about the future of democratic participation.

Those interested in learning more about the League of Women Voters and its local initiatives can visit the Pasadena chapter’s website.
