A beloved creative‑writing initiative is preparing for its biggest celebration yet. The Omega Sci‑Fi Project, an educational program that has helped thousands of teens fall in love with writing while exploring bold ideas about the future, will host its 2026 Culminating Readings & Honors on Saturday, May 16.

For years, the program has empowered high school students to imagine new worlds and confront real‑world social and environmental justice issues through the lens of science fiction. At a time when creative expression faces increasing pressure, organizers say the project’s mission is more vital than ever: uplifting young voices and encouraging them to think expansively about the future they want to build.

This year’s culminating event promises an especially dazzling lineup. Six standout student stories—including the Green Feather Award winner and The Tomorrow Prize finalist pieces—will be performed live on stage by a roster of well‑known actors.

      Celebrity guest readers include:

      • Peter James Smith (The West Wing, The Dropout, Upload)
      • Isabella Gomez (One Day at a Time, Shrinking, The Goldbergs)
      • Tawny Newsome (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Space Force)
      • Monnae Michaell (Don’t Ever Wonder, Law & Order, Survival of the Thickest, The Vince Staples Show)
      • Stephanie Czaijkowski (Star Trek: Picard, Doom Patrol, MacGruber)

The afternoon will showcase student imagination at its most ambitious—from speculative futures to cosmic adventures—brought to life by performers who know how to command a stage.

Organizers describe the event as both a celebration and a call to action. By spotlighting teen writers, they hope to inspire communities to continue supporting creative education and to champion the next generation of storytellers.

The event is free to attend with RSVP, and seats are expected to fill quickly as fans of sci‑fi, youth arts, and the featured actors converge for an unforgettable afternoon.
