Watch a movie. Visit the world.
Los Angeles’s most famous export, movies, are often more than entertainment, especially with the passage of time. Sometimes films are the most vivid collective memories for immigrant communities of their homelands, a topic up for discussion when Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Public Library presents One Family: Film Theaters Between Chinatown & Little Taipei on Saturday, August 29 at 1:00 pm.
Beginning with a free screening of the Taiwanese My Favorite Season (1985), the afternoon then includes a community discussion about preserving Chinese history through cinema from Hong Kong and Taiwan.
This program brings together two historic Chinese-language film theaters from LA’s Chinatown and Little Taipei (San Gabriel Valley) – the Sing Lee Theatre and the Kuo Hwa Theater.
