In a creative turn true to its literary core, the non-profit Underdog Bookstore is hosting the City’s first-ever Pride Book Festival this coming Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.
Subtitled “Books and Barks in the Park,” the gathering expands the footprint of the queer- and diversity-focused bookshop to Monrovia’s Library Park for a full afternoon of celebration. Enjoy the lifting up of queer storytelling, featuring over 50 authors and vendors, community building, and free activities for all to enjoy.
A family-friendly event, the Festival has already been praised by Monrovia Mayor Becky Shevlin as a seminal Pride addition to the 38,000 resident township. Underdog Bookstore representatives were applauded for bringing Pride representation to the City at the SGV Pride Tour Kick-off at Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses headquarters on May 30, and a strong inaugural attendance is hoped-for. (Note: the weather should be mild and sunny.)
Underdog aims to “serv[e] marginalized groups and individuals of all ages and backgrounds. By championing diversity and inclusivity in all our work as a nonprofit, we aspire to build a stronger, more connected community of underdogs.” Find out more about the event and the storefront on their website here.
