To most of the world, Star Trek’s Lt. Uhura, as portrayed by Nichelle Nichols on television in the 1960s, is a pop culture icon.
What they may not know is that Nichols, who worked hard to enable African Americans, including women, to enter the astronaut corps, changed the NASA space program forever. Michael Conley, the film’s executive producer, will answer questions from attendees after the screening.
