Sure, lots of venues this summer are featuring live music, but Descanso Gardens might be the only one offering both the sounds of Mexico and Appalachia on one night: Thursday, July 9, from 4:45 pm – 6:45 pm.

Included with the price of garden admission, both group performances are family-friendly and dance-inspiring.

The Summer Music and Dance series this year is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary by highlighting the people and cultures that make our country beautiful. This summer celebrates America as rhythm, migration, and reinvention: music and dance that is rooted in place, shaped by travel, and alive in connection.

Playing in the Amphitheater at 4:45 pm and 5:45 pm, Las Colibrí (“The Hummingbirds”) brings the joy of mariachi to life with dazzling voices, lively strings, and plenty of heart. Inspired by Mexico’s all-string mariachi tradition and the glamour of golden-age cinema, this all-women ensemble creates a festive musical celebration.

Over in the Rose Pavilion at 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm will be the foot-stomping Wimberley Bluegrass Band, a sibling band whose blazing picking, close family harmonies, and joyful blend of original and classics bring roots music to life with heart and energy.

Enjoy a day full of garden beauty and an evening full of song.
