Memorial Park is the host of Levitt Pavilion concert series during the summer (Photo – Staff).
MUSE/IQUE in conjunction with The New 9th and the Central Avenue Jazz Festival present Central Avenue: An Extraordinary Story of the South LA Music Legends Who Changed the World.
Taking place in Memorial Park’s historic bandshell on July 15 and 16, this special open house is free to the community. RSVPs are required. Theater-style chair seating will be provided for free admissions.
Back by popular demand, they’re remounting one of the most popular, talked-about performances of the 2022 season. If you missed it the first time, now is your chance to celebrate the legacy of jazz that began on Central Avenue, the west coast’s answer to the Harlem Renaissance.
Reprising their original roles are the inimitable Sy Smith, LaVance Colley, The DC6 Singers Collective (vocals), and the stellar band: Ian Martin (bass), Donald Barrett (drums), Tony Pulizzi (guitar), and the legendary Myron McKinley, music director and keyboardist of Earth, Wind, and Fire.
