A nearly 30-year Pasadena tradition returns Saturday, Aug. 1, with a renewed focus on community recovery as Chris Holden’s Annual Block Party and Resource Fair brings together residents from Pasadena, Altadena, and Sierra Madre in the wake of the Eaton Fire.
The free public event will run from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on the 500 block of East Jackson Street in Pasadena, between Los Robles Avenue and El Molino Avenue. Organizers say this year’s gathering will provide both a celebration of community resilience and access to critical resources for residents and businesses affected by the fire.
“This Block Party has always been about neighbors taking care of neighbors, but this year it means even more,” said Chris Holden, CEO of LA Fire Justice. “After everything our community has been through with the Eaton Fire, this event is our chance to come together, celebrate our resilience, and connect people with the resources they need to rebuild.”
The annual event will feature familiar favorites from past years along with new programs created to address the needs of fire-impacted communities.
Entertainment will include a special performance by Pasadena native Jon B, the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated R&B artist known for hits including “Someone to Love” with Babyface, “They Don’t Know,” and “Are U Still Down” featuring Tupac Shakur.
The event will also include food trucks, a local mariachis performance, a children’s zone with a jumper, games, and activities, and a Humane Society area featuring adoptable pets.
More than 60 resource tables will be available, with representatives from state, county, and local organizations providing information and assistance. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet local elected officials, including Congresswoman Judy Chu.
Recovery Resources Added for Fire-Affected Residents
This year’s Block Party will feature dedicated areas focused on Eaton Fire recovery, including:
- Farmers Market Zone: Showcasing local farmers and merchants.
- Rebuild Zone: Providing recovery information and rebuilding resources.
- Wellness Area: Offering mental and physical health support.
- Mobile Health Clinic: Providing on-site medical services.
LA Fire Justice representatives will also be available to provide information for Eaton Fire survivors. A fully bilingual team, including Spanish-speaking attorney Maribel Medina, will be onsite to answer questions and help Spanish-speaking survivors understand their rights and recovery options.
Spotlight on Local Businesses and Community Organizations
The Block Party will highlight dozens of small businesses, artists, and community organizations, with an emphasis on supporting those affected by the Eaton Fire.
Participating community organizations include Altadena Farmers Market, Shepherds Door, Altadena Historical Society, Project Passion, YWCA San Gabriel, and California Botanic Garden.
Recovery and construction organizations include TR Construction LLC, Bridgeline Construction, United Policyholders, and City First Bank.
Local artists featured at the event include Keni Arts, Alta Art Collective, and Heather C Morrow Photography.
Organizers say the event will provide an opportunity for residents to support local vendors and artisans while enjoying live music, family activities, and community connections.
The Block Party and Resource Fair is free and open to the public.
