Evening Walk Through Pasadena and San Marino Neighborhoods

Join Pasadena Village for an evening walk through the Pasadena/San Marino neighborhoods below South Lake and Caltech on a 2.3-mile route.

      By Luca Bonoli

This public walk is part of Walktober, an annual event that encourages people to get out and walk in Pasadena. Pasadena Village is partnering with the nonprofit Day One to offer this free community event.

The walk will begin by heading south on Lake Avenue to Kewen Drive, then continue down into Kewen Canyon, which runs between Pasadena and San Marino. From there, the route ascends to Circle Drive, looping around and heading north on Oak Grove Avenue.

This is a fun and scenic walk, Kewen Canyon feels unexpectedly rural, and there are many stately homes and mansions to admire along Circle Drive and Oak Grove Avenue. A portion of the Pasadena/San Marino border runs along Kewen and Encino Streets: homes on the east side are in San Marino, while those on the west side are in Pasadena.

      Meeting location

The walk begins at the intersection of South Lake Avenue and Oakwood Place, in front of artist Lisa Mann’s shopping cart installation “George Wilson: HOME (MORE-OR-LESS)” at Sidney F. Tyler Park, located in the median between South Lake and Lakewood Place, just one block south of Peet’s Coffee.
      Departure time: 4:15 pm.

      Parking

Street parking is available on Lake Avenue, the west side of Lakewood Place, and South Hudson Avenue. Two-hour parking restrictions end at 6:00 pm on Lake and Hudson, and the one-hour restriction on Oakwood Place also ends at 6:00 pm.
