Students are hard at work at Eliot Arts in preparation of “Hairspray Jr.” production.
In its 4th year, the musical productions program at Eliot Arts continues to build and expand. This year, students are once again hard at work doing everything in house–from design, to making the costumes at the costume shop, to building and painting the sets. Elliot students are working tirelessly on stage to present a great show for the community.
Hairspray Jr.
The musical Hairspray Jr. studies the social and artistic movements of the 60s. The Eliot’s production looks at intersections of segregation and the Civil Rights Movement, the Feminist Movement, and studying the pop art of artists like Corita Kent, Idelle Weber, and Rosalyn Drexler. The production at Eliot will be using pop art and printing techniques in their costumes and sets, while students are digging into how this show set in 1962 is still relevant today.

How can you help?
Your monetary donation will go a long way in supporting the arts program in:
- Costumes & Wigs
- Sets & Rigging Materials
- A sound technician for the show
- Publicity
- Programs
- T-shirts
For that, Eliot Arts Program has set up a fundraiser page and they’re soliciting your support for the upcoming musical production. The GoFundMe page currently shows an amount slightly less than $4000, short of their goal of $6000 (as of publishing time).
And don’t forget to show up May 9 & 10 at 6:30 pm and May 11 at 1:30 pm and enjoy the Hairspray Jr. production.

Founded in 1931, Charles W. Eliot Middle School has been a public school serving 6th, 7th, and 8th graders (11-14 years old) in the Altadena and North Pasadena communities for over 80 years.
