On August 21, 2023, at 10:02 AM, officers from the Pasadena Police Department responded to the 200 block of South Raymond Avenue regarding a “Shots Fired” call.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female with fatal injuries lying outside an apartment complex. Jamila Elysse Moss was unresponsive with fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officers quickly identified an apartment unit within the complex connected to the victim. They established a containment around the complex and determined that a suspect was barricaded inside. SWAT teams, as well as Crisis Negotiators, from both the Pasadena Police Department and the Glendale Police Department, responded to the crime scene to handle the tactical aspect of the incident.
After several hours, which included moments of negotiating, 32-year-old Guary Lonnie Shuford III, a Los Angeles resident, surrendered to SWAT operators without incident.
Several streets south of Colorado Boulevard were closed during the incident, and Metro train and bus services were impacted for several hours.
