Altadena residents might notice a bright splash of library spirit cruising through town this spring.
By Rena Kurlander
That’s the Curiosity Connection Vol. 2, Altadena Libraries’ newest mobile library, and it’s officially rolling into neighborhoods with a mission: bring resources directly to the community, no matter where they are.
Starting this week, district staff will make twice‑weekly stops at popular local spots, turning grocery store parking lots and park corners into pop‑up hubs of curiosity.
Where to Catch the Curiosity Connection
Tuesdays
- 10:00 am – 1 2:30 pm: Grocery Outlet, 2270 Lake Ave.
- 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm: Fair Oaks Burger, 2560 Fair Oaks Ave.
Thursdays
- 10:00 am – 12:30 pm: Triangle Park, 800 E. Altadena Dr.
- 2:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Prime Pizza, 1900 Allen Ave.
At each stop, visitors can sign up for a library card, browse a curated mini‑collection for all ages, and even check out items from the Library of Things; yes, that includes everything from sewing machines to mobile hotspots. Staff will also share details about upcoming programs, events, and services.
A Passport Worth Stamping
To sweeten the adventure, the library is running a “passport challenge” through March 31. Each time a resident visits the mobile library at a different location, they’ll earn a stamp. Collect all four, and they’ll score a $10 gift card from a participating local business, while supplies last. It’s a little nudge to explore Altadena and support neighborhood shops along the way.
A Library That Comes to You
The Curiosity Connection Vol. 2 is more than a van, it’s a rolling reminder that libraries are evolving, creative, and deeply rooted in community life. Whether you’re grabbing groceries, picking up lunch, or strolling through the park, you might just find a new book—or a new hobby—waiting for you.
