Many people pick up a paintbrush later in life, but not everyone gets the chance to celebrate their work with an artist’s opening night. This Saturday, July 11, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm, a group of 16 watercolor artists will share that experience with The Creative Life, an exhibition opening at the South Pasadena Senior Center, 1000 Fremont Avenue, Suite 120.

Hosted by the South Pasadena Arts Council (SPARC) in its onsite gallery, the exhibition features artists from the South Pasadena Senior Center’s Watercolor Painting Group and will remain on view through July 29.
The Creative Life celebrates the creativity, dedication, and artistic growth of 16 local artists who gather each week to explore watercolor painting. The exhibition highlights not only the beauty and versatility of watercolor as a medium, but also the friendships, encouragement, and sense of purpose that have developed through a shared commitment to making art.
The Friday afternoon Watercolor Painting Group is led by volunteer facilitators Cheryl St. George and Susan McCarty. Participants of all experience levels are encouraged to experiment with new techniques, exchange ideas, and inspire one another throughout the creative process in a welcoming and supportive environment.
“Since the inception of our watercolor painting class over four years ago, there’s never been a Friday afternoon spent at the South Pasadena Senior Center that didn’t engender feelings of mutual appreciation, inspiration, and fulfillment for every artist participant,” said St. George. “I’ve heard it said, ‘I can’t wait for Friday to come. It makes my week.’ It’s a sentiment echoed by both Susan and me.”
The artwork featured in The Creative Life reflects each artist’s unique perspective, personal growth, and enjoyment of watercolor painting. From expressive landscapes and florals to colorful still lifes and imaginative compositions, the exhibition celebrates both individual artistic expression and the meaningful community that has grown around a shared love of art.
The Creative Life is a reminder that creativity has no age limit. The exhibition celebrates lifelong learning, artistic exploration, and the connections that flourish when people come together to create.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception, meet many of the participating artists, and celebrate the vibrant creative spirit of the South Pasadena community.
