On Tuesday, August 16, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) presented a check of $1.5 million to the City of Pasadena for Broadband Network Expansion.

The $1,500,000 funding will assist in expanding broadband access to thousands of Pasadena residents. It was secured by Rep. Chu through Federal Community Project Funding via the annual Congressional appropriations process. Pasadena Mayor, Victor Gordo, along with City Councilmembers and city staff were present for the occasion at Villa Parke Community Center.
Over the past six years, the City of Pasadena has deployed free public Wi-Fi to 15 of 33 City parks and park facilities. Over 1,000 unique connections access this service daily and over 40,000 connections annually—a 100% increase since the start of the coronavirus pandemic
The money from this grant will provide for the completion of free Public Wi-Fi in the remaining 18 parks and park facilities in Pasadena, further increasing access to broadband for underserved communities, students, and all residents.
