First United Methodist Church in Pasadena will host a vibrant Earth Day Celebration and Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, April 27, from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on their Colorado patio at 500 E. Colorado Blvd. With the theme “Use Less and Re-use More,” the event aims to inspire eco-friendly habits and bring the community together in joyful stewardship of the planet.

Each table display will feature a practical habit for sustainable living, providing attendees with hands-on ideas to reduce waste and care for the Earth. Local environmental groups including Pasadena 100, the Sierra Club, Arlington Gardens, the Zero Waste Store, Pasadena Heritage, the LA County Youth Climate Commission, Altadena Green, and CREEC will host information booths and activities.
Guests are encouraged to bring old running shoes, plastic grocery bags, and eyeglasses for donation and recycling. These items will benefit the church’s Summer Musical, the local Lions Club, and the Community Pantry.
The event will also feature tastings of vegan food to promote plant-forward diets and reduce food waste, along with resource guides for those looking to deepen their environmental knowledge.
A highlight of the morning will be the Blessing of the Animals, where pets can receive a special blessing and commemorative certificate. For pets who prefer to stay home, blessings will also be offered via photograph.
Located in Pasadena’s Playhouse District, First United Methodist Church has served the community since 1875 and is known for its inclusive, welcoming spirit. Sunday services are held weekly at 10:00 am.
