Don’t let the final two on-campus concerts by OcTech, Caltech’s choral octet, pass you by: Saturday, July 25, at 7:00 pm and Sunday, July 26 at 2:00 pm.
By Melanie Hooks
Founded in early 2022, the group performs a wide variety of choral music, including Renaissance works, folk arrangements, and contemporary compositions. But with several members graduating and moving on from campus life, it’s time to enjoy their talents one last time before they pursue careers in locations across the country.
Titled Farewell: Songs of Departure, both concerts are free and open to the public on the Caltech campus. The program explores themes of endings and beginnings, honoring the close of the members’ academic chapters at Caltech and the start of their next adventures. The performances showcase some of the ensemble’s favorite composers from the Western choral tradition while also featuring two original compositions by OcTech members.
Saturday’s concert will be held in the Morgan Library in Kerckhoff Hall (second floor; enter from Wilson Avenue). Sunday’s performance will take place in the Dabney Lounge and Gardens (enter across from Ramos Auditorium). Parking for both concerts will be available at 1248 E. California Blvd.
The group’s Caltech website includes links to past recordings, including Winter’s Night, Summer Love, and Ave Maria. Experience their unique, beautiful sound in person—or online—before this chapter comes to a close.
