How far back does Cantonese history in North America go? The current exhibit at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library explores that history.

      By Melanie Hooks

Step into history at “Cantonese Pioneers Building North America,” a pictorial exhibition now on display at the Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library. Through historic images and stories, the exhibition highlights the experiences and contributions of Cantonese pioneers, including their roles in the California Gold Rush, railroad construction and the development of communities across North America.

The exhibition will be on display through Sept. 30 in Room 103, across from the Circulation Desk on the library’s ground floor.

The Monterey Park Bruggemeyer Library is located at 318 S. Ramona Ave.

The exhibition is presented by the Chinese American Citizens Alliance’s Greater San Gabriel Valley Lodge and the Cantonese Society of Southern California.
