The Caltech-Occidental Symphony presents its winter concert on Saturday March 7 at Occidental College and Sunday March 8 at Caltech.
The Caltech-Occidental Symphony presents its winter concert, directed by Allen Robert Gross, featuring David Asher Brown as guest conductor and pianist Jonathan Liu.
These events will take place on:
– Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Thorne Hall @Occidental College
– Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 3:30 p.m. in Ramo Auditorium @Caltech.
Both concerts will have the same program.
Music will include David Asher Brown’s Voyager, Ravel’s Piano
Concerto in G Major, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (“From the New World”).
Voyager, composed in 2014, is a musical tone poem that conveys the cultural and scientific implications of the Voyager spacecraft that carries with it a golden disk embedded with cultural artifacts from Planet Earth, including the music of Bach.
Jonathan Liu is this year’s winner of the Caltech-Occidental Student Concerto Competition. Jonathan is a senior undergraduate at Caltech majoring in Applied Physics.
