The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) announced that June 26, 2026 (6/26), has been officially proclaimed “I ♥ SGV Day” in the State of California through Senate Concurrent Resolution 189, authored by Senator Susan Rubio and supported by members of the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus.

SCR 189 designates June 26, 2026, as “I ♥ SGV Day” and encourages Californians to celebrate the San Gabriel Valley and its contributions to the state’s economic vitality, cultural richness, and civic life. The resolution highlights the region as one of California’s most vibrant and diverse areas, spanning 31 cities and unincorporated communities across more than 374 square miles and serving nearly two million residents.
The resolution also recognizes the San Gabriel Valley’s cultural, ethnic, and linguistic diversity, along with its historical contributions to California’s growth and innovation. It further acknowledges the region’s longstanding commitment to civic engagement, public service, and regional collaboration. In addition, it highlights SGVCOG’s role as the largest and most diverse subregional council of governments in Los Angeles County, noting its more than three decades of work advancing regional solutions to improve quality of life across the San Gabriel Valley.
“The San Gabriel Valley has always been a special place, defined by its people, its diversity, and its strong sense of community,” said SGVCOG President Ed Reece. “The I ♥ SGV initiative was created to bring our region together in a shared celebration of who we are and what we contribute. This recognition from the California State Legislature is not just an acknowledgment of a campaign—it is a recognition of the pride, resilience, and spirit that define the San Gabriel Valley and the millions of people who call it home.”
June 26 was selected to honor the iconic 626 area code, long associated with regional identity and pride in the San Gabriel Valley.
Senator Susan Rubio, who also chairs the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus, is scheduled to present the resolution on the Senate floor, formally recognizing the region’s civic, economic, educational, cultural, and social contributions to California.
“I am proud to author SCR 189 and lead this effort to officially recognize I ♥ SGV Day,” Rubio said. “The San Gabriel Valley’s greatest strength is its people, its diversity, and the strong sense of community that unites us. This resolution celebrates the pride we share in our region and the collective spirit that drives us forward.”
The resolution also highlights the SGVCOG’s “I ♥ SGV” campaign, a community-driven initiative designed to foster regional identity and showcase the people, places, cultures, businesses, and institutions that define the San Gabriel Valley.
Celebrations will continue on June 26 with a community reception hosted by the San Gabriel Valley Legislative Caucus in West Covina, bringing together residents, local leaders, and regional partners to mark the inaugural “I ♥ SGV Day” and the shared pride across the San Gabriel Valley.
